Late nights; late mornings………….
Results of good friends in bad clothing.
I’ve not yet realized I have relocated from Lagos to Enugu. The shift in
place of primary assignment has been one of the greatest forms of relocation.
This time around I didn’t shift; my wife did. I can’t leave my wife staying
alone in a state capital where wealth and crime is extreme thus I had to move
also. It was gradual as no one expects me to leave what I have been doing in
the busiest city in Africa and move to a coal city of Enugu just because my
wife got a job over there. The shuffles were in and out which spanned two weeks
in intervals.
The business in Lagos was getting slower, Enugu was getting
livelier. I’ve been thinking of how to relocate my business from Lagos to Enugu
but the resources in Enugu doesn't seem enough for my greed. The brain kept on
calculating until one faithful night. I got the hit’; a new business to spring
up the emotions of the Ibos in their flamboyant expectancies. I needed partners
to make it a reality thus I picked up my phone around 6.30 am in the morning
and placed calls to three of my friends. They were all interested thus we fixed
a meeting for 11 o clock that morning. I ended the call and booked a flight
immediately. I rushed to the bathroom, got dressed, packed a few things as I
would still be going to my house in Lagos and set out to get a cab take me to
the airport. The flight was 9.05 am and I left my house 7.20 am. This 45
minutes journey took two hours that faithful day. Thanks to some kind of
rituals being orchestrated to my delay. I prayed for a delay in the flight as
this meeting was so important to me but as fate would have it; I saw the take
off of the plane. I rushed to the customer service desk to reschedule my flight
and at that moment I noticed two of us missed our flight.
Hi, hello …. You missed you flight
too? I asked. Yeah she said with a tone I would never forget. So what are we
going to do because I need to be in Lagos? Hmmm same with me she said and the conversation
continued like that was what I came to the airport to do. We chatted for a while
as we started looking for another airline that could make Lagos within our
schedule of time. All were evening flights and that’s really unreasonable to
both of us. At last we settled for a flight by 5pm.
Whoever said love doesn't exist at
first sight has never seen Enen. She wasn’t the most attractive lady you’ve
ever seen but you can’t remember who you’ve seen that more attractive than her.
A medical student in one of these private universities who grew up in the Caribbean.
Her accent is a mixed concept of African and Puerto Rican. Her slight bow legs
and lovely hips correspond at an angle just too perfect for any young or old
man. In all sincerity Enen was perfectly built. I discovered one thing about beauty that spans
make up; it produces brains also. Almost all the beautiful girls I’ve seen have
a good sense of reasoning also. I don’t mean girls like Aisha and Funke…………
those one misplaced their brains.
Enen was a 300 level medical student and for
me she knew everything about medicine. We talked like we were old friends and
it was 3 pm announcement that made us know we were hungry. We walked to the restaurant
within the airport to get the normal jollof rice and chicken and gladly I paid.
All I was doing was to build a lasting friendship with a lady I just met. We spent
some time eating like we were being watched. Every part of me was cautious and
she was also impeccable. The food wasn’t
particularly good since she didn’t complain, who am I to do so?
As we walked back to the waiting
lounge an announcement came up again and this time it was the good bad news. “There has been another delay on beta flight
no 2D77E from Enugu to Lagos. Passengers should please bear this in mind”
There was shouting at the waiting
lounge and I looked at everyone in surprise like if only they knew I’ve been
here since 9 am they would shut up. Some walked to the flight attendants to ask
questions and the only response Enen could give me was to rest on my shoulder. At
this point I wished the flight would never happen again. I held her close to me
and the softness of her body was sweet. I looked at her and said: don’t you
think we should just get a place to stay her in Enugu and tomorrow morning we’ll
make sure we get to the airport on time? And she said we’ll get a place to stay
in Lagos.
Immediately I started searching for
the best and affordable hotel in Ikeja. Thoughts roam my mind and I felt I shouldn’t
be too impressive else she might see me as being false. I held on to three
hotels in my mind and I confirmed my FCMB atm was with me. It was supposed to
be family savings account but at this time I was ready to add her to the
family.
The plane landed and I got a cab. Perris
hotel Opebi, and the guy said 4000 naira. I slowly opened the door for her as
we walked into room 112. Spacious and exotic. She fell on the bed in all
tiredness and the short gown she wore this faithful day rose a little for me to
see her panties. It was at this point that my wife called me. I looked at the
phone in disbelief and as I picked she asked……………….. What are you doing at Perris?
