MOTHER IN LAW PART 10

AND HIS BIRTHDAY IS 4TH OF OCTOBER She wore a dark sunglasses. I told mama I loved her glasses; asking her where she got it from. I walked closer to check the brand on it and jokingly I pulled the glasses to check the authenticity with a smile of “mama you are too much”. As I removed the glasses mama closed her eyes all through, then I knew there was problem. I now cannot see the eyes I was told to look inside. I replaced mama’s glasses and decided I’ll call the Ijebu father, to tell him about the new development.  The drive home was splendid and loving. Patrick bought ice cream for me; a habit he had soon lost. I was happy but a little bit guilty. I felt like telling him how far I’ve gone to restore this marriage, but something kept telling me I shouldn’t do that. That night was better than our wedding night, it was a great reunion.  The next morning I told Betty about the development, and we called Ijebu father together. I narrated the whole incidence ...

MOTHER IN LAW PART 9

LAUGH IT OFF I needed to tell my husband where I was going to. It was also Betty that reminded me of a wedding ceremony I could use as an excuse to leave the house. I called Patrick since he has been to the house in straight three days that I would be going for a wedding ceremony and would be there for three days. He willingly granted my request and I could feel the hatred in his voice. The trip was supposedly long trip, but every meter we covered, I knew I was close to my deliverance.  Three states was the distance we needed to cover before getting to Ogun state and Ijebu ode was a popular place in the state. The herbalist’s house was a well finished bungalow with a fountain. But the statues inside the compound are the only scary things. We walked into a well furnished living room with a flat screen TV and DSTV.  I was getting a little more surprised on how this enlightened person can be an herbalist. It took a while before he came out and amazingly ...

MOTHER IN LAW PART 8

And that was her first encounter with Pastor Julius. It was an orchestrated move from a wife that needs her mother in law out of her family. Pastor Julius walked into the hairdressing salon and greeted all the women “peace unto you all”. Whoever comes with peace must also be greeted with peace. Pastor Julius continued with a short prayer, and from that moment, prophecies and visions from the twenty seconds prayer was the order of the day.  He picked on mama immediately, and started telling her things about herself that no stranger should have known. How many children she has and that her husband is late. How she gave birth to the son. That she has a son married but not living with her. When it got to my part of her story, she became most attentive.  Pastor Julius made mama understand that the future of the family lies in me. But the future might not be met because they are tampering with it. He told mama to apologize to me if she has offended me, and make sur...

MOTHER IN LAW PART 7

CHINYERE I have always heard about rape, but now I just understood what it was. I woke up in the hospital and beside me was Patrick, my mum, my sister and Betty. It was the fourth day before I was found by the police. I had been raped I know, but the truth was, it was hard for me to believe. I had glimpse of what happened in the uncompleted building still flashing through my mind. Everybody was happy I opened my eyes, but I felt like dying. I thought to myself if I was dead it would have been better……… many other thoughts were roaming until the doctor entered the ward I was kept. He held my hand to check my pulse, and was opening my eyes wide. I gathered all my strength and asked the doctor softly “how is my baby”. He said all is well. I was so happy. Then Patrick bent beside me with a kiss, and told me to keep quiet and rest.  The memories were agonizing as it took forever for me to forget them. I was in the hospital for another 24 hours but now I could talk. It was...
